Carbon Reduction Plan
Our Commitment
UniVirtua Limited is committed to operating responsibly and to reducing the environmental impact associated with its business activities wherever practical.
UniVirtua is primarily a software and technology company. We do not operate manufacturing facilities or energy-intensive production processes. Our activities principally comprise software development, engineering, systems integration, professional services and the configuration and assembly of solutions using commercially available, industry-proven COTS (Commercial off-the-Shelf) electronic hardware.
Our approach to carbon reduction is therefore focused on practical measures appropriate to the scale and nature of our operations.
Software-First Product Strategy
A fundamental element of UniVirtua’s product strategy is a software-first approach.
Wherever possible, product capability, performance and functionality are enhanced through software rather than the development and manufacture of proprietary hardware. Our dashAlpha products are predominantly based upon established COTS hardware platforms, allowing us to take advantage of existing commercial supply chains and avoid unnecessary bespoke manufacturing.
This approach can also help extend the useful operational life of deployed equipment through software upgrades, configuration changes and reuse of existing hardware.
Responsible Use of Hardware
Although UniVirtua does not manufacture electronic equipment, we integrate and configure COTS-based devices as part of our product portfolio.
Where practical, we seek to:
- Select reliable, energy-efficient and supportable COTS equipment.
- Maximise the operational life of hardware before replacement.
- Reuse and redeploy equipment where appropriate.
- Minimise unnecessary packaging and transportation.
- Use appropriate recycling and disposal routes for electronic equipment reaching end of life.
- Work with established suppliers whose environmental policies are compatible with responsible business practices.
Travel and Ways of Working
UniVirtua makes extensive use of digital collaboration, remote system management and remote customer support.
These capabilities reduce the need for unnecessary journeys and enable many technical, administrative and customer-support activities to be carried out remotely.
Where travel is necessary, we encourage proportionate consideration of lower-impact options, including public transport and rail where practical.
Energy and Digital Services
We aim to minimise unnecessary energy consumption associated with our offices, IT equipment and operational infrastructure.
When selecting cloud, hosting and other technology services, environmental performance and energy efficiency may be considered alongside technical capability, security, resilience and commercial requirements.
Supply Chain
As a software-led business using COTS hardware, a significant part of the environmental impact associated with our products sits within established third-party technology supply chains.
UniVirtua therefore seeks, where commercially practical, to work with reputable suppliers and technology partners that demonstrate responsible environmental and sustainability practices.
Continuous Improvement
Our approach is based on practical continuous improvement rather than unnecessary administrative overhead.
As UniVirtua grows, we will periodically review our working practices, product design, procurement, travel and technology supply chain to identify realistic opportunities to reduce environmental impact.
Our priority is to ensure that environmental considerations remain part of proportionate business decision-making while continuing to provide secure, resilient and dependable communications solutions to our customers.
